Sid Scott Trophy, Tuesday 19th December 2023

On Tuesday, 19th December 2023, in our last Bowls session of 2023, 16 club members took part in the Sid Scott Memorial Trophy.

Just as had been done last year, as was Sid’s wish, the competition was played as ‘pairs’. The pairs were decided at random by pulling numbered tokens out of a bag.

Because of the number of people playing the eight pairs were separated into two ‘Pools’, and the four teams in each pool all played each other.
Teams scored 2 points for a win, 1 point each for a draw, but zero for a loss.

After playing all their six games, Pool B sorted itself out very neatly, with Team 6 winning.

However, Pool A gave extremely close results with three out of the four teams having won two of their games and lost the other one. So then it came down to the total number of shots scored, and there was still no clear winner as, amazingly, two teams were equal with 18 shots.

It was decided that the only fair thing to do was to hold a “play off” to decide the Pool A winner, but that meant that there wasn’t time to play one last game, the Final, between the Pool winners.

So once we get back to bowling in 2024, the competition Final will be played to determine the Winners, and the Runners Up, for the trophy.

Pool A Winners :      Team 1    David & Megan
Pool A runners up:   Team 3    Roger B. & Melodie

Pool B Winners ;     Team 6    Roger G. & Ann
Pool B runners up:  Team 5    Chris & June

The final was played on Tuesday 9th January. After 5 ends the teams were tied, 4 all, so it went to a deciding 6th end which was won by Team 6
Winners: Roger Gill & Ann Cook, Runners Up: David Hill & Megan Laughton
