On Thursday 7th December we played a match at Home against Weldon, their first visit to us in Saxon Hall.

Saxons ‘A’ team, playing on Mat 1, did not have a good start in their game, losing the first four ends & only winning one of the next four. So that at the halfway point of the game, after eight ends, the visitors were ahead by 9 shots to 1.

Fortunately, a Saxon win of 3 shots in the next end began their spirited fight back, which they continued by winning four of the last seven ends. Weldon proved to be just too far ahead to be caught, and managed to win the game by 16 shots to 12 in the end.

On Mat 2 the Saxons ‘B’ team began quite well, sharing a low scoring first six ends with Weldon, so that the score at that point was a tie, 3 - 3.
From then on, however, the Weldon team managed to win only two more ends in the game, each by just 1 shot, while Saxons made a couple of large scores in ends seven & eight, then pulled away steadily increasing their lead. The game finished with a Saxon win by 25 shots to 5.

Saxons won overall, then, by 37 to 21
