On Thursday 30th November we played a match at Home against Swanspool, from Wellingborough.

Saxons ‘A’ team, playing on Mat 1, were level with Swanspool after the first six ends, in a low scoring start for both teams, having scored just 3 shots each.

However Swanspool didn’t win any of the next six ends, while Saxons kept scoring steadily, until at that point they were in the lead by 18 shots to 3.

Swanspool managed to win two of the last four ends, but only by 1 shot in each of them, leaving Saxons with a comfortable win by 23 shots to 5.

On Mat 2 the Saxons ‘B’ team made a good start, winning six out of seven ends to be 8 shots to 1 ahead.

It was clear that the Swanspool team were struggling with the speed of the mat ( which plays much slower than the ones they are used to ) and bowled ‘short’ quite often to begin with. The next four ends were shared with Swanspool, each team winning two of them, making the score 11 shots to 5.

But with Swanspool only managing to win one of the last five ends, and especially with Saxons B making their highest score of five shots in the final end, we came out with another good win, 21 shots to 6.

Saxons won overall, then, by 44 to 11
