Stanwick - Away. Match Result

Website updated 03-Apr-2024

On Thursday 29th February, 2024, we played an ‘away’ match at Stanwick, who chose to play 18 ends.

Both Saxons teams found the mats there to be a bit ‘heavy’ and mat 2 was certainly a lot slower than the mats we are used to at Saxon Hall.

On mat 1, Saxons ‘A’ team started slowly, only winning one of the first nine ends, so they were well behind at that point. They then made a spirited comeback, winning six of the next nine ends, but unfortunately were not able to do quite enough to win that game, and finished three shots down from their opponents at 17 – 20.

Saxons ‘B’ team on mat 2 struggled to find their length, often coming up short despite bowling a good line. Stanwick’s excellent front two players were consistently on or near the jack, making it difficult for us to score more than the odd one or two shots, so we were never able to get much of a toe-hold in this game at all, and were five or six shots adrift through most of it. Then with a win by two shots in each of the last four ends Stanwick pulled away, winning the game by 22 – 8.

Saxon ‘A’ lost by 17 - 20
Saxon ‘B’ lost by 8 - 22

Saxons lost overall then, 25 to 42

Team A : Alan Thorn, Ann Cook, Linda Gill, Roger Gill

Team B :Anna Davies, Tony Sellick , Roger Bond, Chris Selling
