Our first match in 2026 was played ‘at home’ on 15th January, against teams from Barton Seagrave. Having lost to them in the first match of this season back in October, at Barton Seagrave, we knew we could be in for a hard match, and this did prove to be the case.

Saxons ‘A’ won two of the first five ends, and were only one shot behind at 3 -4. However the visitors took all of the next six ends, with high scores of a couple of fours and a three increasing their advantage to a huge lead of 19 to 3 after the eleventh end. Despite Saxons then rallying & winning four of the five ends that were left, they were unable to make much of a dent in that lead, try as they might. Barton only scored one more shot, but still came out the winners with an impressive total of 20 shots to 9.

Saxons ‘B’ managed to keep pace with their opponents pretty well in a very low scoring first ten ends. The lead went back and fore between the two teams, & although Saxons did need saving a couple of times by some accurate final bowls from their Skip, they were level with Barton Seagrave after ten ends at 6 shots each. Unfortunately, after that we only took one end of the remaining six, & the visitors increased their lead steadily, coming out on top with a winning score of 14 shots to 7.
