Barton Seagrave - Home. Match Result

On Thursday 25th January, 2024 there was a ‘Home’ match, played at Saxon Hall, against Barton Seagrave. It was their first visit to us in Raunds as they were one of the “new” teams added to our list of local opponents this season.

Both games were very close, and quite low-scoring, so the atmosphere in the hall felt, at times, a little tense, because a big score by Barton Seagrave on any end could have swung the match their way.

Fortunately, both Saxon teams won the first two ends, and thereafter managed to keep themselves just in the lead, scoring just a shot or two at time, so that the Barton Seagrave bowlers were always behind and playing catch-up, although they came within three shots of Saxon ‘A’ & two shots of Saxon ‘B’ mid-match.

The Saxon teams stuck to their guns and eventually pulled away a little further, aided by a couple of spectacular, final bowl ‘saves’ from David Hill in Team ‘B’, so that the scores at the end of the match don’t truly reflect quite how close the games actually were.

Saxon ‘A’ won by 13 - 9
Saxon ‘B’ won by 14 - 6

Saxons win overall, then, by 27 to 15
